Snapchat Score: What It Counts and Why It Isn’t Updating

The number under your name on your profile is your Snap Score. Snapchat doesn’t publish the formula, but the basics are well known.

What raises it

ActionCounts?
Sending a SnapYes
Opening a Snap you receivedYes
Posting to your StoryYes
Keeping streaksIndirectly (you send more Snaps)
Text chat, callsNo
Adding lots of friendsNot directly; Snapchat has said adding friends isn’t a way to raise it

Sending one Snap to 10 friends

Snapchat doesn’t say, but users commonly report that sending one Snap to many friends at once raises the score less than snapping friends one by one over the day.

Why your score isn’t updating

Seeing a friend’s score

Open a chat with the friend and tap their Bitmoji or name. The score appears under their name if you’re friends with each other. You can’t see the score of someone who isn’t your friend, and it isn’t shown on public profiles or on the web.

Does a high score mean anything?

Not much. It doesn’t change who sees your Stories, doesn’t help Spotlight videos, and doesn’t earn money. It’s a rough count of how much you’ve used Snapchat.
